Nandini Kushwah, a 7-year-old girl from Bagmugaliya slum area, Bhopal, comes from a large family with six sisters. While her parents have a stable source of income—her father runs a food cart, and her mother sells vegetables—their earnings are not sufficient to comfortably support a big family. Despite financial challenges, her parents were keen on educating their daughters, and Nandini joined Umang Academy along with her elder sister.
Extreme shyness—she hesitated to interact with teachers and participate in class activities.
Easily distracted, as her elder sisters were not serious about studies.
Irregular attendance, as she depended on her parents to accompany her to school. If they were busy, she had to miss school.
To help Nandini overcome these obstacles, Umang Academy’s teachers and coordinators took a holistic approach:
✔️ Created a welcoming and comfortable environment in the classroom, helping her feel at ease.
✔️ Encouraged interaction through engaging activities, gradually boosting her confidence.
✔️ Counseled her parents and motivated her elder sisters, emphasizing the importance of regular attendance.
✔️ Instilled a sense of responsibility in the family, ensuring they prioritized Nandini’s education.
✅ Tremendous academic growth—she quickly started excelling in studies.
✅ Active classroom participation—she now interacts confidently and engages in discussions.
✅ Regular attendance—her parents now make special efforts to send her to school daily.
✅ A ripple effect—inspired by Nandini’s progress, her parents enrolled two more siblings in Umang Academy.
