Mahendra Pawar, a 16-year-old boy from Bagmugaliya slum area, Bhopal, had never received formal education before joining Umang Academy last year. His childhood was filled with struggles—his parents separated at birth, and he grew up with his six elder sisters, solely dependent on his mother, who worked as a household maid to support the family. Due to severe financial constraints, Mahendra had to leave his education midway and start working at local shops to contribute to household expenses.
Irregular schooling due to financial pressure to work.
Lack of confidence and hesitation to interact, exacerbated by a stammering issue.
Reluctance to join Umang Academy, feeling overaged and uncomfortable sharing his family background.
Understanding Mahendra’s hesitation and unique circumstances, Umang Academy’s teachers and coordinators took a supportive and sensitive approach:
✔️ Counseling sessions helped him understand the importance of education and feel comfortable in the school environment.
✔️ Special attention was given to boost his confidence and communication skills.
✔️ Instead of overwhelming him with coursework, teachers gradually reintroduced him to learning at his own pace.
✔️ Speech exercises and interactive activities were used to help him overcome his stammering and improve class participation.
Mahendra’s progress has been nothing short of inspiring.
✅ He is now regular in school and actively engages in studies.
✅ He has become attentive in class and interacts freely with teachers.
✅ His stammering has significantly reduced, making him more confident in communication.
