Krishan Nayak, a 9-year-old boy from Ganesh Nagar Nahar slums, Bhopal, is a student of Class 3 (Ashni) at the Ganesh Nagar Government School. Coming from a large family, Krishan’s father works as a construction laborer, while his mother is a homemaker. With four siblings, education was not a priority in the family, and awareness about its importance was limited. He and his brother joined Umang Academy from the very beginning.
Krishan’s irregular attendance was a major hurdle in his education. Due to a lack of parental awareness, he would often spend his time playing with local kids instead of attending school. Additionally, during festival seasons, he would set up small street shops with his friends, which further affected his studies.
Understanding the root of the problem, Umang Academy took a proactive approach:
✔️ Our social coordinator made regular home visits to encourage Krishan and his family to value education.
✔️ We worked on building awareness among parents, helping them understand the long-term benefits of consistent schooling.
✔️ Teachers introduced a reward system, where Krishan and his friends received small gifts and incentives for regular attendance, making school more attractive.
✔️ He was given extra motivation and encouragement to maintain personal hygiene and discipline.
With consistent efforts, Krishan’s school attendance improved significantly. Now, he comes to school regularly and neatly dressed. As a result, he has also started performing better in academics. However, he still requires additional support, as his parents remain less engaged in his education. Our team continues to work closely with the family, ensuring that Krishan gets the necessary encouragement to stay on track.
